    Check Valves Guide

Check Valves are used in a wide variety of liquid handling applications to keep flow going in one direction. The primary reason for using check valves in liquid transfer systems is to prevent backflow from occurring. Another reason for using check valves is to eliminate cross contamination in piping systems with multiple products.

Check Valves are made from many materials including bronze, ductile iron, stainless steel, polypropylene, PVC and more. The most common type of check valve is the ball check design; it consists of a ball that is pushed against a "seat" material by a spring when flow is stopped in the primary direction. Other common types of check valves include single disc or double disc designs; these types also include a spring that pushes the disc(s) against a seat material when flow is stopped.
