Removing Air Valve to Work on Wet End Repairs | Video

Sandpiper Pumps briefly describes why it's easier to remove the air valve whenever working on a diaphragm pump, regardless of which side needs maintenance.

Diaphragm pumps are a type of positive displacement pump that uses two large diaphragms draw in and expel fluid. As a diaphragm moves towards the middle of the machine, water is drawn in to the pump. The diaphragm then moves away from the middle, pressurizing and expelling the fluid. The diaphragm is then filled with air until it compresses again.
